Raleigh Bell, one of our long time members, passed away on December 28, 2019. A memorial service was held here at Bethany on Friday, January 3, 2020. Please continue to keep the family in your thoughts and prayers.

The adult Sunday school class continues Michael Card's DVD study on the gospel of Mark. After that, we'll begin the DVD series "Soulkeeping" by John Ortberg.

Join us at 10:00 AM in the History Room.

Please consider joining us for our weekly share & prayer time every Sunday morning at 10:00 AM.

If you have a desire to pray for our nation, church, community, or for the needs of our church members, this is the place for you!

Junior Disciples is back! This group is for elementary school aged children. Please contact Marina Overby for information about meetings.

The Junior Disciples are meeting on Sunday February 2nd for lunch and a movie.

We are seeking volunteers to serve as greeters on Sunday mornings. There's no expertise required. The greeter's responsibility is to welcome regular members and visitors with a smile, hug, or handshake as they arrive to church. Please see Mr. Darrell Bush if you would like to volunteer.

Band of Brothers

The Band of Brothers, is the Bethany Men's Group. The BoB is hosting a Sweetheart Dinner, February 8, 6 PM at Mama Stella's in Clinton. Everyone is invited to come out for an evening of fun and fellowship.
The Band of Brothers will meet at Golden Corral in Waldorf on February 18 at 7 PM.

Bible Study

Wednesday morning Bible study is discussing the "Deeper Connections" DVD series on Jesus' life, featuring a different Bible teacher for each session. Join us 10:30 AM - 12 noon in the Fellowship Hall.

Blanket Fund

Christian Action is again participating with Church World Service in the "Blanket Fund." $5.00 will provide a blanket to someone that needs one. These blankets go to US Indian Reservations, flood victims, tornado victims, and others suffering loss in the world. Please give your donations to Ann Smith during January and February. Thank you for your participation.

Warm Nights Program

Christian Action will be serving dinner to the homeless on Saturday, February 8 at First Baptist Church on Allentown Road. If you can help serve or provide a dessert, please let Charlene McGinity or Darlene DeMarr know. Students can receive community service credits for their service.

A Note of Thanks:

I would like to thank your congregation for helping with the recent bath towel donation drive. We collected an entire trunk load of items of which 90% were brand new and delivered them to the Community Crisis Center in Brentwood, MD. This would not have been a success without the generosity of your folks.

Nancy Ernest, Warm Nights Coordinator

Oxon Hill Food Pantry

Christian Action continues to collect nonperishable canned food for the Oxon Hill Food Pantry.  There is a special need for the following: peanut butter & jelly, soup, cereal, evaporated milk, tuna, and other canned meats and pasta.  A collection box is in the church lobby.  Please check the expiration dates.

The Oxon Hill Food Pantry could use canned soups, paper products and toothpaste in addition to peanut butter & jelly, cereal, evaporated milk, canned meats, pasta and any other non-perishable food. The collection tub is in the foyer near the office.

Sweetheart Spaghetti Luncheon

The Fellowship Committee is sponsoring their annual Sweetheart Luncheon on February 9 after church.

Make plans now to join us for great food and worship!

Monthly Board Meeting & Stewardship and Finance Meeting

The monthly Board and Stewardship & Finance meetings will take place on Sunday, February 16.  Stewardship & Finance meets at 8:30 a.m. in the Church office.  The full Board meeting meets at 9:00 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall.  All Committee chairpersons are asked to attend.  All other church members are welcome as well.

Ash Wednesday

We will have a short Ash Wednesday Service here at Bethany on February 26 at 7:00 PM. Join us for a time of reflection as we observe the beginning of the Lenten Season.

Come out and be blessed through worship and the Word.

The distribution of ashes will be available for those who request it.

We have started an electronic supplement to the weekly Bethany Prayer Journal. Anyone who would like to be e-mailed prayer requests as we receive them midweek, can give their e-mail address to Becky Minetto.  When you notify the church office of prayer needs, please let them know if it is OK to put the request on the e-mail prayer chain as well as the Prayer Journal.  Also let us know if the request is confidential. If you have any questions, contact  Becky Minetto.

Bethany needs acolytes for each worship service. If you or your child (age 7 or older) can help, please sign up on the signup sheet on the Welcome Desk in the Lobby. Parents, please sign up for your children (do not let your children sign up for themselves) and consider being an acolyte parent for the week as well. Teenagers (13+) and adults can sign up as well. Acolytes do not need to be children. If you have any questions about acolyting, please speak with Sarah Swett.

Thank you!

Take a look at the library shelves in the Parlor. We're in the process of putting books back in order and deciding what to keep and what to remove. Please help us! Books stacked on their sides to the right we're considering removing. If you would like us to keep any, just put them back with the vertical books on the left of each shelf.

We're hoping to make room for newer books and DVDs. If you want to donate Christian books and DVDs, please give them to Becky Minetto.

The weekly prayer list found in your bulletin keeps us mindful of those in need of prayer. However, the list continues to grow. Please help us keep the prayer list up-to-date by calling the church office to let us know when a name may be removed.

Members who are sick and shut-in are also listed on the weekly prayer list. Please continue to pray for them. Consider mailing them a card or giving them a call from time-to-time to let them know you’re thinking about them.

You can dedicate the flowers for a given Sunday service.  The cost is $15 for a standard arrangement.  Larger arrangements or specific flowers (roses or carnations), is an additional charge.

Forms are now available on the Welcome desk for your use. Please complete the form and leave it in the “red folder” on the Secretary’s desk. Please do not submit your request, no more than thirty days prior to your dedication Sunday.

You can also call the office by Wednesday if you wish to dedicate flowers for a Sunday.

We are endevouring to increase recycling at Bethany.

We have a paper recycling bin for used church bulletins in near the coat rack and can/plastic recycling in the kitchen.

Also, in our efforts of going 'green', Tower Notes are now available via e-mail.  If you would like to receive the Tower Notes via e-mail, please send an e-mail to: bethany7128@verizon.net (the Church e-mail).  Receiving the Tower Notes via e-mail will save the church both time and money.  Thank you!
